The long cherished dream of knanayites in Milan. became a reality with the inauguration of their new unit. The inaugural program was held at St. Luca auditorium in Milan. It  began with the holy mass offered by Rev Fr. Bibi Tharayil, spiritual director of KCAI and was then followed by an official inauguration of the unit by KCAI president Mr. Raju Mundakaparambil.

The desire to fulfill our forefathers’ advice of not forgetting our culture and relationships has always been forefront in the thoughts of knanayites. Even immigration to new countries has not deterred them from finding fellow knanayites and getting together to reminisce their past and build new relationships for the future.

Through the years there has been an influx of malayalees into Milan and its surrounding regions. They have helped and supported each other in every matter. Among this population, the knanayites’ desire to have their own unit has finally been fulfilled.

Just like strong dynasties, the knanaya unit in Milan is continuing to impart its traditions and rituals along with their culture to the next generations through various activities.

Fr. Jijo Nellickakandathil (Ex.Spiritual Advisor of Knanaya Catholic Association of Italy):The Knanaya Community,though small in size, outshines the horizons of Kerala history and culture especially of the Kerala church through their unique mode of living. Today, thousands of Knanaya people have migrated to the urban and industrial centres of our own country and other foreign countries like USA, UK, Italy, Middle-East etc., because of the better prospects of employment they offer. In this way, the Knanaya community is now getting transformed into a international realty. Today, activities of the Knanaya units in Italy are tremendous and appreciatable especially of the Milan unit. I have seen all their endeavours, their hardships to make the unit and to guide the unit in proper channel. I wish the Milan unit that it may always have the determination of a mirror, which never loses its ability to reflect in spite of it being broken into pieces! Keep shining! As the dawn breaks into a beautiful sunrise may God shower you His blessings of love and lead you always to the right path. GOOD LUCK.
